The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Mount (1) and the Book inscribed (2) In parchment unrolled. (3) And the House (Kaaba) that is visited, (4) and the uplifted roof (5) and by the swelling ocean, (6) Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. (7) There is none that can ward it off. (8) on the Day when the skies are convulsed, (9) And the mountains will move away with an awful movement. (10) Woe will be to those who rejected the Truth (11) Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. (12) The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, (13) "This is the Fire which you used to deny. (14) Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? (15) [Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient - it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do." (16) Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. (17) Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. (18) They will be told, "Eat and drink to your heart's delight for what you have done". (19) They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. (20) We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. (21) We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. (22) They will pass cups of un-intoxicating and unsinful wine to one another. (23) ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. (24) And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, (25) They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. (26) But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. (27) Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" (28)
