The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! (1) And the Scripture inscribed (2) On fine parchment unrolled, (3) By the much-frequented Fane; (4) And the lofty roof. (5) And by the Ocean filled with Swell;- (6) Verily, the Doom of thy Lord will indeed come to pass;- (7) No one can avert it. (8) On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. (9) and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. (10) woe that day unto those that cry lies, (11) Those who in wading sport themselves. (12) On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): (13) This is the fire which you used to deny. (14) Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! (15) Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' (16) But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, (17) rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. (18) [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." (19) They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. (20) Those who believe, and whose descendants follow in belief, We will join their descendants to them. And We will not reduce them of anything of their deeds. Every one is pledged for what he has earned. (21) And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. (22) They will pass cups of un-intoxicating and unsinful wine to one another. (23) ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. (24) And some of them draw near to others, questioning. (25) 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, (26) But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. (27) Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. (28)
