The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Mount, (1) And by the Book Inscribed. (2) On an open record. (3) by the much-frequented House, (4) and the roof uplifted (5) And the sea kept filled, (6) Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. (7) No one can avert it. (8) A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. (9) The mountains move and fly away, (10) So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. (11) Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. (12) On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. (13) This is the Fire which you used to belie. (14) Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? (15) Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." (16) The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, (17) talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. (18) [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." (19) They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes. (20) And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. (21) And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. (22) They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. (23) ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. (24) They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. (25) 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, (26) But God has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of scorching wind. (27) Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." (28)
