The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount (1) By the book inscribed. (2) in an exposed parchment (3) And by oath of the Inhabited House. (4) And the lofty roof. (5) By the sea overflowing. (6) VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: (7) No one can avert it. (8) (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, (9) and the mountains shudder and shake. (10) Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth, (11) That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. (12) The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, (13) (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. (14) Is this magic or do you not see? (15) Burn in its heat. It is all the same for you whether you exercise patience or not; This is the recompense for your deeds". (16) Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, (17) Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. (18) (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, (19) Reclining on thrones set in lines, and We will unite them to large-eyed beautiful ones. (20) And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We join their offspring, and We shall not decrease the reward of their deeds in anything. Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned. (21) We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. (22) They shall pass therein from one to another a cup wherein there shall be nothing vain nor any sin. (23) ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. (24) They will go to one another asking each other questions: (25) They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: (26) but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. (27) we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' (28)
