The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, (1) and a Book inscribed (2) on fine parchment; (3) And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mur (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously visited by the angels); (4) by the elevated canopy; (5) and by the swelling sea: (6) Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. (7) There is none can avert it;- (8) [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, (9) and the mountains are in motion, (10) Then woe that day unto the deniers (11) Those who sport entering into vain discourses. (12) That Day shall they be thrust down to the Fire of Hell, irresistibly. (13) “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” (14) Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! (15) Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. (16) Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, (17) rejoicing in whatever their Lord has given them. Their Lord has saved them from the torment of the Fire, (18) "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," (19) They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. (20) And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. (21) And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. (22) and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. (23) ۞ And young attendants like pearls within their shells, will go round. (24) They will turn to one another ask questions, (25) They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: (26) But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: (27) Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." (28)
