The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Mount (Sinai), (1) And by oath of a passage, written (2) in a parchment unrolled, (3) And the House frequented, (4) By the roof elevated. (5) And the sea set aflame. (6) the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, (7) there is none to prevent it. (8) On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion (9) and the mountains move, moving. (10) Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth, (11) such as play at plunging, (12) On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. (13) This is the fire which you used to deny. (14) “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” (15) Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” (16) Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, (17) Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. (18) [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, (19) Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. (20) And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. (21) And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. (22) They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. (23) ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. (24) And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, (25) They will say: “When we were living before among our kinsfolk we lived in constant fear (of Allah's displeasure). (26) Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. (27) “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” (28)
