The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Mount (Sinai), (1) And [by] a Book inscribed (2) In parchment unrolled. (3) by the much-visited House, (4) and by the lofty vault of the sky, (5) and by the swelling ocean, (6) Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; (7) Of it there is no preventer. (8) Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily (9) and the mountains move, moving. (10) Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) (11) Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. (12) the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: (13) This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. (14) Is it magic then or do you not see? (15) Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." (16) Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, (17) Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. (18) 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. (19) They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes. (20) And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. (21) And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. (22) They will exchange cups of wine free of (incitement to) pleasantry or sin. (23) ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. (24) And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. (25) They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. (26) Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. (27) "Verily, We used to invoke Him (Alone and none else) before. Verily, He is Al-Barr (the Most Subtle, Kind, Courteous, and Generous), the Most Merciful." (28)
