The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount, (1) And [by] a Book inscribed (2) on unrolled parchment, (3) Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! (4) by the elevated canopy; (5) and the sea that is full (6) surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; (7) No one can avert it. (8) On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, (9) and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. (10) On that Day woe to those who belied (11) Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. (12) The Day when they will be pushed down by force to the Fire of Hell, with a horrible, forceful pushing. (13) (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. (14) Is it magic then or do you not see? (15) Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." (16) Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. (17) Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. (18) Eat and drink with relish for that which ye have been working. (19) Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. (20) We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. (21) We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. (22) There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, (23) ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. (24) And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, (25) They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. (26) and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. (27) Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. (28)
