The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount (Sinai), (1) And a Scripture inscribed (2) in an exposed parchment (3) By the much-frequented Fane; (4) And the lofty roof. (5) and by the swelling sea: (6) Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; (7) There is none that can avert it; (8) The day the sky will tremble, (9) And the mountains move away with (awful) movement, (10) Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers (11) and who indulged in false disputes against (God's revelations). (12) The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, (13) 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! (14) Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? (15) “Enter it now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” (16) Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, (17) Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. (18) "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," (19) They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. (20) And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. (21) And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire (22) They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. (23) ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. (24) And they will advance unto each other asking questions. (25) They will say: “When we were living before among our kinsfolk we lived in constant fear (of Allah's displeasure). (26) "But Allah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the Fire. (27) Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. (28)
