The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Mount; (1) Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed (2) in a parchment unrolled, (3) by the established House (Mecca), (4) By the roof elevated. (5) and by the swelling sea, (6) surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; (7) there is no one who could avert it, (8) On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side (9) And the mountains move away with (awful) movement, (10) Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- (11) and amuse themselves with vain argumentation. (12) the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: (13) “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” (14) "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? (15) Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” (16) As to the Righteous, they will be in Gardens, and in Happiness,- (17) talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. (18) Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, (19) Reclining on thrones, in rows; and We have wedded them to maidens with gorgeous eyes. (20) And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. (21) And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. (22) They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. (23) ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. (24) And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, (25) Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: (26) Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. (27) Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. (28)
