The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, (1) Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed (2) on unrolled parchment, (3) And [by] the frequented House (4) By the roof elevated. (5) And the sea kept filled, (6) Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, (7) There is none that can avert it; (8) On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, (9) and the mountains quickly move. (10) Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, (11) such as play at plunging, (12) on that Day they shall be ruthlessly thrust into the Fire of Hell. (13) and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. (14) Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? (15) Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." (16) Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, (17) Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. (18) 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. (19) They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes. (20) And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. (21) And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. (22) They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. (23) ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. (24) They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. (25) Saying: "We were also once full of fear at home. (26) But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: (27) We had prayed to Him; He is Kind and All-merciful". (28)
