The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, (1) And [by] a Book inscribed (2) On fine parchment unrolled, (3) And the House frequented, (4) And [by] the heaven raised high (5) By the sea overflowing. (6) the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place (7) there is none who could avert it. (8) on the Day when the skies are convulsed, (9) and the mountains move, moving. (10) So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. (11) and amuse themselves with vain argumentation. (12) the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: (13) "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! (14) Is it magic then or do you not see? (15) Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. (16) Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, (17) Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. (18) "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." (19) Reclining on thrones set in lines, and We will unite them to large-eyed beautiful ones. (20) And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. (21) And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. (22) There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin. (23) ۞ Round about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome) as Pearls well-guarded. (24) And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. (25) "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- (26) But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: (27) Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" (28)
