The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount (1) by the book (Torah) written (2) In parchment unrolled. (3) by the House inhabited (4) and by the lofty vault of the sky, (5) Consider the surf-swollen sea! (6) Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; (7) there is no one who could avert it, (8) On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly (9) and the mountains quickly move. (10) Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth, (11) Who play in talk of grave matters; (12) the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: (13) This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. (14) Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! (15) Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." (16) Verily the God-fearing will be in Gardens and Delight. (17) Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. (18) [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." (19) They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes. (20) And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. (21) And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. (22) There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. (23) ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. (24) They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. (25) Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). (26) "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. (27) Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” (28)
