The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, (1) By the book inscribed. (2) on fine parchment; (3) And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mur (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously visited by the angels); (4) And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven). (5) And by the sea kept filled (or it will be fire kindled on the Day of Resurrection). (6) Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; (7) there is none to prevent it. (8) (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, (9) and the mountains shudder and shake. (10) So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. (11) Who play in talk of grave matters; (12) On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire (13) and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. (14) Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! (15) Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' (16) Surely the God-fearing shall be in Gardens and bliss, (17) enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. (18) “Eat and drink with pleasure, a reward for what you used to do.” (19) They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. (20) And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. (21) And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. (22) and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. (23) ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. (24) They will turn to one another and ask (regarding the past events). (25) They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. (26) and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; (27) Before, we were supplicating to Him. He is the Giving, the Most Merciful' (28)
