The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount (of Revelation); (1) Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed (2) in a parchment unrolled, (3) By the much-frequented Fane; (4) by the elevated canopy; (5) and the sea that is full (6) verily your Lord's chastisement shall come to pass, (7) No one can avert it. (8) [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, (9) And the mountains move away with (awful) movement, (10) Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth (11) Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. (12) On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): (13) This is the Fire which you used to belie. (14) Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? (15) “Enter it now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” (16) Verily the God-fearing will be in Gardens and Delight. (17) Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. (18) 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. (19) They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. (20) And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. (21) And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. (22) They will pass cups of un-intoxicating and unsinful wine to one another. (23) ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. (24) They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, (25) saying, "We were afraid while in the world. (26) But God has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of scorching wind. (27) we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' (28)
