The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Mount 1 By the book inscribed. 2 in an exposed parchment 3 And the House (Kaaba) that is visited, 4 And the lofty roof. 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily 9 and the mountains shall violently fly about. 10 So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), 11 Who are playing in falsehood. 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 Is this magic or do you not see? 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, 25 They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. 26 God has been gracious to us and has saved us from the torment of Hell's intense heat -- 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
