The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount, (1) By the book inscribed. (2) In parchment unrolled. (3) And [by] the frequented House (4) and the roof uplifted (5) And the swollen sea, (6) The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. (7) there is none to prevent it. (8) [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, (9) and the mountains shall violently fly about. (10) Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers (11) Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. (12) That Day shall they be thrust down to the Fire of Hell, irresistibly. (13) This is the Fire which you used to belie. (14) "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? (15) Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. (16) Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, (17) Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. (18) "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," (19) They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. (20) And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. (21) We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. (22) There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). (23) ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. (24) They will go to one another asking each other questions: (25) Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; (26) and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. (27) we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' (28)
