The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount (1) and by the Book in lines (2) on parchment for distribution, (3) By the House Frequented. (4) And the roof exalted, (5) And the swollen sea (6) Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls (7) and no one will be able to prevent it. (8) A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. (9) and the mountains shudder and shake. (10) Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) (11) Who play in talk of grave matters; (12) the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: (13) “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” (14) Is it magic then or do you not see? (15) [Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient - it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do." (16) Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss (17) talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. (18) (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." (19) (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. (20) And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. (21) We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. (22) They will pass cups of un-intoxicating and unsinful wine to one another. (23) ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. (24) And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. (25) They will say: “When we were living before among our kinsfolk we lived in constant fear (of Allah's displeasure). (26) But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: (27) Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” (28)
