The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the mount. (1) and by the Scripture penned (2) In parchment spread open (3) And by oath of the Inhabited House. (4) And the elevated canopy (5) and the sea that is full (6) The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. (7) There is none that can avert it; (8) The day the sky will tremble, (9) And the mountains will move with a visible movement. (10) On that Day woe to those who belied (11) those who are in plunging, playing. (12) On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), (13) “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” (14) Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? (15) Enter into it, then bear (it) patiently, or do not bear (it) patiently, it is the same to you; you shall be requited only (for) what you did. (16) Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, (17) Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. (18) [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." (19) They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. (20) And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We join their offspring, and We shall not decrease the reward of their deeds in anything. Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned. (21) And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. (22) They shall pass therein from one to another a cup wherein there shall be nothing vain nor any sin. (23) ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. (24) They will turn to one another and ask (regarding the past events). (25) They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: (26) but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. (27) "Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!" (28)
