The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the Mountain, (1) By a Decree inscribed (2) In parchment unrolled. (3) And the House (Kaaba) that is visited, (4) And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven). (5) and by the swelling ocean, (6) the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place (7) there is none who could avert it. (8) A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. (9) and the mountains quickly move. (10) Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) (11) those who are in plunging, playing. (12) on that Day they shall be ruthlessly thrust into the Fire of Hell. (13) “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” (14) Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? (15) Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." (16) Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, (17) enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. (18) Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, (19) Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. (20) To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. (21) And We will aid them with fruit and flesh such as they desire. (22) while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, (23) ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. (24) They will turn to one another ask questions, (25) Saying, “Indeed before this, we were in our houses, worried.” (26) but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. (27) We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. (28)
