The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the mount (1) Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed (2) on wide-open scrolls. (3) And the House frequented, (4) And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven). (5) And the sea kept filled, (6) Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. (7) No one can avert it. (8) On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, (9) And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. (10) Woe will be to those who rejected the Truth (11) Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. (12) The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, (13) This is the Fire which you used to belie. (14) Is this magic, or do ye not see? (15) Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' (16) Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, (17) Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. (18) 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. (19) They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. (20) And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. (21) We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. (22) There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). (23) ۞ and youths, of their own, shall pass among them as if they were hidden pearls. (24) And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. (25) They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah]. (26) God has been gracious to us and has saved us from the torment of Hell's intense heat -- (27) Before, we were supplicating to Him. He is the Giving, the Most Merciful' (28)
