The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount, (1) And a Scripture inscribed (2) In an outstretched fine parchment, (3) And the House frequented, (4) by the elevated canopy; (5) Consider the surf-swollen sea! (6) verily your Lord's chastisement shall come to pass, (7) There is none that can ward it off. (8) The day the sky will tremble, (9) and the mountains move, moving. (10) So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), (11) and who indulged in false disputes against (God's revelations). (12) On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. (13) This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. (14) "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? (15) Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." (16) As to the Righteous, they will be in Gardens, and in Happiness,- (17) rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. (18) They will be told, "Eat and drink to your heart's delight for what you have done". (19) Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. (20) To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. (21) We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. (22) and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. (23) ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. (24) They will ask each other questions, (25) They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, (26) but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. (27) we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' (28)
