The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! (1) and the Book inscribed (2) on unrolled parchment, (3) And the House frequented, (4) by the elevated canopy; (5) And the sea set aflame. (6) VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: (7) there is no one who could avert it, (8) [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, (9) And the mountains will move away with an awful movement. (10) So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. (11) Who play in talk of grave matters; (12) On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. (13) “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” (14) “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” (15) "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." (16) Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. (17) Enjoying the (Bliss) which their Lord hath bestowed on them, and their Lord shall deliver them from the Penalty of the Fire. (18) Eat and drink with relish for that which ye have been working. (19) They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. (20) And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. (21) And We will aid them with fruit and flesh such as they desire. (22) They will exchange cups of wine free of (incitement to) pleasantry or sin. (23) ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. (24) And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. (25) They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. (26) Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. (27) Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. (28)
