The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the mount (1) Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed (2) In an outstretched fine parchment, (3) by the much-frequented House, (4) And the lofty roof. (5) and by the swelling ocean, (6) Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, (7) There is none who could avert it. (8) On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, (9) And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. (10) Then woe that day unto the deniers (11) Those who in wading sport themselves. (12) On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. (13) This is the fire which you used to deny. (14) Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! (15) Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. (16) Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, (17) Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. (18) "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." (19) They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes. (20) And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. (21) And We will aid them with fruit and flesh such as they desire. (22) and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. (23) ۞ And young attendants like pearls within their shells, will go round. (24) They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, (25) Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: (26) But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. (27) "Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!" (28)
