The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of (mount) Tur. (1) and the Book inscribed (2) on wide-open scrolls. (3) Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! (4) By the Canopy Raised High; (5) And by the Ocean filled with Swell;- (6) surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; (7) none can avert that. (8) A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. (9) And the mountains move away with (awful) movement, (10) Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth (11) all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain (12) the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: (13) This is the Fire which you used to belie. (14) Is it magic, or you cannot see? (15) Enter into it, then bear (it) patiently, or do not bear (it) patiently, it is the same to you; you shall be requited only (for) what you did. (16) [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, (17) Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. (18) [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, (19) The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. (20) And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. (21) And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. (22) There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, (23) ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. (24) And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. (25) Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). (26) But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: (27) “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” (28)
