The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Mount (1) and by the Scripture penned (2) on wide-open scrolls. (3) By the much-frequented Fane; (4) by the elevated canopy; (5) And the swollen sea, (6) Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls (7) Of it there is no averter. (8) Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily (9) and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. (10) So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. (11) and who indulged in false disputes against (God's revelations). (12) The Day when they will be pushed down by force to the Fire of Hell, with a horrible, forceful pushing. (13) This is the fire which you used to deny. (14) Then is this magic, or do you not see? (15) Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." (16) Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, (17) Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. (18) (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, (19) Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. (20) Those who believe, and whose descendants follow in belief, We will join their descendants to them. And We will not reduce them of anything of their deeds. Every one is pledged for what he has earned. (21) We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. (22) In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. (23) ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. (24) And some of them draw near to others, questioning. (25) "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- (26) But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. (27) We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. (28)
