The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Mount (1) By a Decree inscribed (2) In parchment spread open (3) And the House frequented, (4) and by the lofty vault of the sky, (5) And by the Ocean filled with Swell;- (6) the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, (7) There is none who could avert it. (8) On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. (9) The mountains move and fly away, (10) On that Day woe to those who belied (11) Those who are playing in pursuits. (12) the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: (13) This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. (14) Is this magic, or do ye not see? (15) Burn in its heat. It is all the same for you whether you exercise patience or not; This is the recompense for your deeds". (16) Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, (17) rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. (18) “Eat and drink with pleasure, a reward for what you used to do.” (19) Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. (20) And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. (21) And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. (22) They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. (23) ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. (24) And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. (25) They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. (26) Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. (27) “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” (28)
