The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Mount; (1) and by the Book in lines (2) in a parchment unrolled, (3) by the established House (Mecca), (4) Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! (5) Consider the surf-swollen sea! (6) surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, (7) there is none who could avert it. (8) On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly (9) and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. (10) Then woe that day unto the deniers (11) all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain (12) The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], (13) and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. (14) Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? (15) Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' (16) [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, (17) rejoicing in all their Lord has given them, and their Lord will guard them against the punishment of Hell. (18) (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." (19) The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. (20) And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. (21) And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire (22) There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. (23) ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. (24) And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. (25) They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. (26) and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; (27) Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. (28)
