The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Mount, (1) And by the Book Inscribed. (2) on parchment for distribution, (3) And by oath of the Inhabited House. (4) And the elevated canopy (5) By the sea overflowing. (6) Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; (7) Of it there is no averter. (8) Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily (9) and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. (10) Then woe that day unto the deniers (11) Those who in wading sport themselves. (12) on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] (13) This is the Fire which you used to belie. (14) “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” (15) Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. (16) Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, (17) Enjoying in that which their Lord has bestowed on them, and (the fact that) their Lord saved them from the torment of the blazing Fire. (18) "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," (19) The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. (20) And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained. (21) And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. (22) There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. (23) ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. (24) And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, (25) saying, "We were afraid while in the world. (26) Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. (27) Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" (28)
