The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, (1) and by the Scripture penned (2) in a parchment unrolled, (3) And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mur (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously visited by the angels); (4) and by the lofty vault of the sky, (5) and the sea that is full (6) Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; (7) there is none to prevent it. (8) Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily (9) The mountains move and fly away, (10) Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) (11) Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. (12) The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell (13) (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. (14) Is this magic, or do ye not see? (15) Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." (16) Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. (17) Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. (18) (They will be told): “Eat and drink to your hearts' content as a reward for your deeds.” (19) They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. (20) And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. (21) And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire (22) while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, (23) ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. (24) And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. (25) Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; (26) but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. (27) Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." (28)
