Have you heard the story of Abraham's honored guests? (24) When they came to him saying, "Peace be with you," he replied to their greeting in the same manner and said to himself, "These are a strange people". (25) Then he turned away privately unto his household, and brought a calf fatted. (26) And he set it before them, saying: Will ye not eat? (27) And he felt from them apprehension. They said, "Fear not," and gave him good tidings of a learned boy. (28) Thereupon his wife approached [the guests] with a loud cry, and struck her face [in astonishment] and exclaimed: "A barren old woman [like me]!" (29) They said: "Even so says your Lord. Verily, He is the All-Wise, the All-Knower." (30) ۞ [Abraham] said, "Then what is your business [here], O messengers?" (31) They said, "Indeed, we have been sent to a people of criminals (32) To send down upon them stones of clay, (33) "Marked as from thy Lord for those who trespass beyond bounds." (34) So We evacuated everyone who was a believer there, (35) But did not find more than a single family of believers. (36) And We left therein a sign for those who fear the painful punishment. (37) There is also a Sign for you in the story of Moses when We sent him with a clear authority to Pharaoh. (38) But Pharaoh turned away, showing arrogance on account of his power, and said (about Moses): “He is either a sorcerer or a madman.” (39) So We took him and his hosts, and dumped them into the sea, while he was to be blamed. (40) And [you have the same message] in [what happened to the tribe of] Ad, when We let loose against them that life-destroying wind (41) that left nothing it came upon, but made it as stuff decayed. (42) There is also evidence (of the Truth) in the story of the Thamud, who were told to enjoy themselves for an appointed time. (43) But they disobeyed the command of their Lord; so they were destroyed by a thunderbolt, and they could only gape, (44) So they were neither able to stand up, nor were they able to take revenge. (45) And the folk of Noah aforetime. Lo! they were licentious folk. (46)
