AND HAS the story of Abraham's honoured guests ever come within thy ken? (24) Behold, they entered his presence, and said: "Peace!" He said, "Peace!" (and thought, "These seem) unusual people." (25) Then he turned quickly to his household, brought out a fatted calf, (26) and laid it before them, saying: “Will you not eat?” (27) Then he conceived a fear about them, and they said: 'Have no fear', and gave him the glad tidings that he was to have a knowledgeable son. (28) His wife came out lamenting, striking her forehead, and said: "I, am old and barren woman?" (29) They said, "Even so has thy Lord spoken: and He is full of Wisdom and Knowledge." (30) ۞ Abraham asked, "Messengers, what is your task?" (31) They replied: “Behold, we have been sent to a wicked people (32) to let loose upon them stone-hard blows of chastisement, (33) marked by your Lord for the sinful' (34) So We brought forth such believers as were in it, (35) but We found not therein except one house of those that have surrendered themselves. (36) And We kept a sign remaining in it, for those who fear the painful punishment. (37) And in Moses (too, there is a portent) when We sent him unto Pharaoh with clear warrant, (38) But he turned to his counsellors, and said: "He is a magician or lunatic." (39) So We seized him and his hosts, and We cast them into the sea, and he blameworthy. (40) And in Ad: When We sent upon them the destructive wind. (41) that left nothing it came upon, except that it was ashes. (42) And in the Thamud (was another Sign): Behold, they were told, "Enjoy (your brief day) for a little while!" (43) after they had turned with disdain from their Sustainer's commandment - whereupon the thunderbolt of punishment overtook them while they were [helplessly] looking on: (44) they could neither stand up straight, nor were they helped. (45) So were the People of Noah before them for they wickedly transgressed. (46)
