Has the story reached thee, of the honoured guests of Abraham? (24) When those [heavenly messengers] came unto him and bade him peace, he answered, "[And upon you be] peace!" - [saying to himself,] "They are strangers." (25) Then he turned quickly to his household, brought out a fatted calf, (26) And he set it before them, and said: wherefore eat ye not? (27) Then he conceived a fear of them. They said: Fear not! and gave him tidings of (the birth of) a wise son. (28) Then his wife came forward, crying and beating her brow. She said, "I am surely a barren, old woman." (29) 'Such, says your Lord' they replied: 'He is the Wise, the Knower' (30) ۞ Said he, 'And what is your business, envoys?' (31) They said, 'We have been sent to a people of sinners, (32) so that we bring down stones of clay upon them (33) marked out in thy Sustainer's sight for [the punishment of] such as have wasted their own selves." (34) So We brought out whoever was in the cities of the believers. (35) But We found there but one house of those surrendered (to Allah). (36) And so We left therein a message for those who fear the grievous suffering [which awaits all evildoers]. (37) As (there was) in Moses when We sent him to the Pharaoh with clear authority. (38) But he turned his back, he and his courtiers, and said, "This is a sorcerer or a madman." (39) So We seized him and his hosts and hurled them into the sea and he was blamable. (40) And in 'A-ad also was a lesson, when We sent against them the barren wind. (41) It left not aught whereon it came but it made it as matter decayed. (42) And in Thamud, when We said to them: "Enjoy yourselves for a while;" (43) But they rebelled against their Lord's decree, and so the thunderbolt overtook them even while they gazed; (44) and they were not able to stand upright, and were not helped. (45) And the folk of Noah aforetime. Lo! they were licentious folk. (46)
