Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. (1) The perspicuous Book is witness (2) Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- (3) On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] (4) As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: (5) (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. (6) Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). (7) There is no worship except for Him He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. (8) yet, they toy with their doubts. (9) So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, (10) Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. (11) 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' (12) How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), (13) Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" (14) If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). (15) On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. (16) ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] (17) saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, (18) And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” (19) and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. (20) And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. (21) And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. (22) God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. (23) (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," (24) How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! (25) sown fields, and how noble a station, (26) And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; (27) Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. (28) And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). (29)
