Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. (1) By the Book that makes things clear, (2) Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. (3) During it are distributed all the works of wisdom. (4) The command that We have been sending (5) as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. (6) He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. (7) There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. (8) (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. (9) Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, (10) That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. (11) Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". (12) How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. (13) yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” (14) We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). (15) On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. (16) ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, (17) Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, (18) and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, (19) I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. (20) “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” (21) Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." (22) (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. (23) "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." (24) How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! (25) And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, (26) And comfort wherein they were amused. (27) Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. (28) So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. (29)
