Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. (1) By the luminious Book. (2) Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- (3) Whereon every wise command is made clear (4) The command that We have been sending (5) as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. (6) The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. (7) There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. (8) yet, they toy with their doubts. (9) Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke (10) covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. (11) Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." (12) How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, (13) Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" (14) 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' (15) On the Day We inflict the direst scourge upon all sinners, We will certainly exact retribution. (16) ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] (17) saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, (18) Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. (19) "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). (20) But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” (21) Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. (22) And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; (23) and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" (24) How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. (25) sown fields, and how noble a station, (26) And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; (27) Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. (28) Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. (29)
