Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim! (1) I swear by the illustrious Book. (2) that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. (3) On which all affairs are sorted out and decided (4) [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] (5) (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. (6) Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. (7) There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. (8) In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. (9) But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke (10) That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. (11) 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' (12) How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), (13) and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". (14) If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). (15) Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. (16) ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] (17) Saying: restore to me the bondmen of Allah, verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. (18) and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, (19) “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” (20) "If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me." (21) (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." (22) So go forth with My servants by night; surely you will be pursued: (23) (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," (24) How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, (25) And cornfields and noble places! (26) And the comfort they enjoyed. (27) Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. (28) So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. (29)
