Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
HaMeem (1) By the luminious Book. (2) We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) (3) On which all affairs are sorted out and decided (4) by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, (5) as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. (6) the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them - if you could but grasp it with inner certainty! (7) There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. (8) Nay, but they play in doubt. (9) So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: (10) enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. (11) (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. (12) How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, (13) and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". (14) Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). (15) One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! (16) ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them (17) Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. (18) Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. (19) "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). (20) But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” (21) Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' (22) We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. (23) “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” (24) How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, (25) And fields and grand palaces! (26) And the comfort they enjoyed. (27) Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; (28) So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. (29)
