Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha-Mim. (1) By oath of this clear Book. (2) that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. (3) On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] (4) A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), (5) A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, (6) He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. (7) There is no deity save Him: He grants life and deals death: He is your Sustainer as well as the Sustainer of your forebears of old. (8) But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. (9) Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. (10) Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. (11) 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' (12) How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. (13) and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". (14) If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). (15) On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. (16) ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, (17) (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, (18) And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. (19) “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” (20) "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." (21) He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” (22) (His Lord answered): 'Set out with My worshipers in the night, for you will surely be followed. (23) "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." (24) How much they left behind of gardens and springs (25) and cornfields and splendid buildings, (26) and the life of ease in which they took delight! (27) As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. (28) Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; (29)
