Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim (1) I swear by the illustrious Book. (2) surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, (3) therein every wise bidding (4) determined as a bidding from Us, (We are ever sending) (5) as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, (6) the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them - if you could but grasp it with inner certainty! (7) There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. (8) Yet they play about in doubt. (9) Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. (10) That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. (11) 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' (12) How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. (13) whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? (14) We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). (15) On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. (16) ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, (17) (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, (18) Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. (19) and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. (20) "If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me." (21) Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” (22) So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. (23) And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. (24) How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, (25) And the cornlands and the goodly sites (26) and pleasant things in which they delighted! (27) Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. (28) Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, (29)
