Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. (1) By the Clear Book. (2) Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- (3) on that night every wise decree is specified (4) [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] (5) as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) (6) The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. (7) There is no worship except for Him He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. (8) Yet they play about in doubt. (9) So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke (10) covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. (11) (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. (12) How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. (13) then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' (14) Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. (15) On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. (16) ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, (17) [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," (18) Do not consider yourselves above God. I shall show you a manifest authority (in support of my truthfulness). (19) I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. (20) If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." (21) (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." (22) "Journey by night with My devotees," (it was said); "you will certainly be pursued. (23) "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." (24) How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. (25) And cornfields and noble places! (26) and good things in which they took delight. (27) Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. (28) Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; (29)
