Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. (1) I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). (2) We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; (3) In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, (4) The command that We have been sending (5) A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, (6) Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. (7) There is no god but He; He gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore. (8) Yet they are in doubt, playing. (9) Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, (10) Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. (11) (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" (12) How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- (13) and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". (14) Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. (15) The day that We shall seize them with a grievous hold, We will indeed castigate them. (16) ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them (17) saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, (18) Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. (19) and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. (20) But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” (21) Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." (22) God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. (23) And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. (24) How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! (25) And cornfields and noble places! (26) and pleasant things in which they delighted! (27) Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. (28) So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. (29)
