Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. (1) By the Book that makes things clear, (2) Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - (3) In it every wise matter is determined (4) by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger (5) A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. (6) Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. (7) There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. (8) In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. (9) Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke (10) Covering the people; this is a painful torment. (11) 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' (12) But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, (13) Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? (14) We now remove the punishment for some days so you will again commit the same. (15) The day that We shall seize them with a grievous hold, We will indeed castigate them. (16) ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. (17) saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, (18) And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority. (19) "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). (20) “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” (21) Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". (22) 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. (23) And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. (24) How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, (25) And fields and stately mansions, (26) And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; (27) Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. (28) And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. (29)
