Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
HA MIM. (1) By the Book that makes things clear;- (2) We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). (3) therein every wise bidding (4) Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), (5) (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. (6) The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. (7) There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. (8) Yet they are lost in doubt and play. (9) Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, (10) Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. (11) Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. (12) How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. (13) and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". (14) Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). (15) On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. (16) ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): (17) (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, (18) "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; (19) "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). (20) But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” (21) Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". (22) God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. (23) "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." (24) How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, (25) And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, (26) And the delights which they had been enjoying! (27) Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! (28) And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. (29)
