Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) (1) I swear by the illustrious Book. (2) We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night indeed it is We Who warn. (3) In it every wise matter is determined (4) As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: (5) As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); (6) The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. (7) There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. (8) Nay, but they play in doubt. (9) So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. (10) Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. (11) (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" (12) How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. (13) but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' (14) If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). (15) On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. (16) ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them (17) saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, (18) Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. (19) I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. (20) “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” (21) Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. (22) We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. (23) (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," (24) How many gardens and fountains they left behind them, (25) And fields and stately mansions, (26) and good things in which they took delight. (27) We gave these as an inheritance to other people. (28) And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. (29)
