Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha Mim! (1) CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! (2) We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night indeed it is We Who warn. (3) In it every wise matter is determined (4) The command that We have been sending (5) As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); (6) Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. (7) There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. (8) But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. (9) Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. (10) That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. (11) (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" (12) How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? (13) Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. (14) Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. (15) However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. (16) ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them (17) saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, (18) And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: (19) and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. (20) If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". (21) (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." (22) 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. (23) Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. (24) How much they left behind of gardens and springs (25) And corn-fields and noble buildings, (26) And comfort wherein they were amused. (27) Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. (28) Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; (29)
