Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha, Meem. (1) I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). (2) surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, (3) In it every wise matter is determined (4) Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), (5) A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, (6) The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. (7) There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. (8) But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. (9) So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, (10) enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! (11) [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." (12) How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? (13) whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? (14) Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. (15) However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. (16) ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, (17) "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. (18) And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: (19) "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. (20) “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” (21) Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” (22) (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. (23) And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. (24) How much they left behind of gardens and springs (25) and fields of grain, and noble dwellings, (26) and good things in which they took delight. (27) Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. (28) Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, (29)
