Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. (1) By the Clear Book. (2) Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - (3) In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, (4) A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), (5) As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); (6) The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. (7) La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. (8) Rather they are in doubt, playing. (9) But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke (10) enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! (11) Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. (12) How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them, (13) but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' (14) If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). (15) on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! (16) ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, (17) Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, (18) And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” (19) "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. (20) "If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me." (21) He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” (22) We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night you will be pursued.” (23) "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." (24) How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, (25) And cornfields and goodly positions. (26) and pleasant things in which they delighted! (27) Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. (28) So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. (29)
