Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HaMeem (1) By the Scripture that maketh plain (2) We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan,, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. (3) Whereon every wise command is made clear (4) by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, (5) (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. (6) Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). (7) There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. (8) In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. (9) Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke (10) Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. (11) Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. (12) How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them, (13) but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' (14) Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. (15) on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! (16) ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. (17) "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! (18) And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: (19) And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. (20) "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." (21) Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” (22) God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. (23) "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." (24) How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, (25) sown fields, and how noble a station, (26) And the delights which they had been enjoying! (27) Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. (28) And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. (29)
