Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha'. Mim. (1) By oath of this clear Book. (2) We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan,, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. (3) On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. (4) As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: (5) A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. (6) The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. (7) There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. (8) Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. (9) But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke (10) covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. (11) (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" (12) But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them (13) But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." (14) We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). (15) On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. (16) ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): (17) (saying:) 'Be obedient to me O worshipers of Allah. I am your honest Messenger. (18) And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” (19) And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. (20) "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." (21) Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." (22) [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. (23) and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" (24) How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! (25) And cornfields and goodly positions. (26) And the comfort they enjoyed. (27) Thus it was. And [then] We made another people heirs [to what they had left,] (28) Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, (29)
