Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
HaMeem (1) By the Clear Book. (2) that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. (3) Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. (4) As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: (5) A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, (6) Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. (7) There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. (8) In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. (9) Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. (10) That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. (11) Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. (12) How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? (13) Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. (14) We now remove the punishment for some days so you will again commit the same. (15) One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! (16) ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, (17) Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; (18) "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. (19) And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. (20) But if you do not believe what I say, leave me alone (and desist from laying hands on me).” (21) Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” (22) [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. (23) “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” (24) How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, (25) And fields and grand palaces! (26) And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; (27) Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). (28) Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, (29)
