Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha Mim (1) CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! (2) We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; (3) On which all affairs are sorted out and decided (4) As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), (5) (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. (6) Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. (7) La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. (8) Nay! They play in doubt. (9) Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, (10) enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! (11) Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us we now accept faith.” (12) But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, (13) but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' (14) We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. (15) On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. (16) ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, (17) Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, (18) and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). (19) “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” (20) If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." (21) But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" (22) We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. (23) “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” (24) How much they left behind of gardens and springs (25) And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, (26) and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! (27) Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. (28) Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; (29)
