Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. (1) By the Clear Book. (2) We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan,, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. (3) on that night every wise decree is specified (4) As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), (5) A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, (6) The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. (7) There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. (8) Rather they are in doubt, playing. (9) Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, (10) Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. (11) (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" (12) How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, (13) Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" (14) We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. (15) One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! (16) ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, (17) Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; (18) And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. (19) and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. (20) And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. (21) Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. (22) God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. (23) Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. (24) How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! (25) and cornfields and splendid buildings, (26) And the comfort they enjoyed. (27) Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. (28) The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. (29)
