Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. (1) The perspicuous Book is witness (2) Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. (3) (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined (4) by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, (5) as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, (6) Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. (7) There is no god but He; He gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore. (8) Yet they play about in doubt. (9) Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, (10) That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. (11) Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." (12) [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, (13) Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" (14) Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). (15) One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! (16) ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them (17) Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” (18) "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. (19) I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. (20) And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. (21) Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." (22) (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. (23) Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." (24) How many gardens and fountains they left behind them, (25) And fields and grand palaces! (26) and the life of ease in which they took delight! (27) Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; (28) Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they allowed any respite. (29)
