Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha Mim! (1) By the Clear Book. (2) (That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn -- (3) On that night is made distinct every precise matter - (4) an order from Us. We are ever sending. (5) as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. (6) He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. (7) There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. (8) Aye! they're in doubt sporting. (9) Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. (10) enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! (11) (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. (12) How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, (13) Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" (14) [Still,] behold, We shall postpone this suffering for a little while, although you are bound to revert [to your evil ways: but] (15) One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! (16) ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, (17) "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! (18) and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). (19) And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. (20) “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” (21) He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” (22) So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. (23) And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. (24) How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! (25) and cornfields and splendid buildings, (26) and pleasant things in which they delighted! (27) Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. (28) And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). (29)
