Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha, Meem. (1) By the Scripture that maketh plain (2) Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. (3) on that night every wise decree is specified (4) As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), (5) A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. (6) The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. (7) There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. (8) Aye! they're in doubt sporting. (9) Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. (10) Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. (11) (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" (12) But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, (13) And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? (14) Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. (15) However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. (16) ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, (17) (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, (18) "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. (19) I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. (20) And if you do not believe me, then leave me' (21) Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” (22) 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. (23) And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. (24) They left - how many! of gardens and springs. (25) And crops and noble sites (26) And the comfort they enjoyed. (27) Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. (28) And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. (29)
