Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. (1) By the Clear Book. (2) Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. (3) During it are distributed all the works of wisdom. (4) by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, (5) A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, (6) Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). (7) There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. (8) yet, they toy with their doubts. (9) Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, (10) Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. (11) Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. (12) How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, (13) Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" (14) [Still,] behold, We shall postpone this suffering for a little while, although you are bound to revert [to your evil ways: but] (15) The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution. (16) ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them (17) (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, (18) "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; (19) I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. (20) "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." (21) Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." (22) (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. (23) And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. (24) They left how many gardens and fountains, (25) And cornfields and goodly positions. (26) And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight! (27) Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. (28) And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). (29)
