Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HA MIM. (1) By the clear Book, (2) Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. (3) Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. (4) determined as a bidding from Us, (We are ever sending) (5) A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. (6) The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. (7) There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. (8) Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. (9) So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: (10) Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. (11) Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." (12) How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! (13) and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". (14) [Still,] behold, We shall postpone this suffering for a little while, although you are bound to revert [to your evil ways: but] (15) However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. (16) ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, (17) saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. (18) Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. (19) and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. (20) If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". (21) Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". (22) And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; (23) "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." (24) How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains (25) and fields of grain, and noble dwellings, (26) and the life of ease in which they took delight! (27) As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. (28) And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. (29)
