Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. (1) By the Book that makes things clear;- (2) We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan,, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. (3) Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom (4) By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), (5) as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, (6) The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. (7) La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. (8) Rather they are in doubt, playing. (9) Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. (10) Covering the people, this is a painful torment. (11) (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. (12) But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, (13) Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. (14) Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. (15) The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure We will indeed take revenge. (16) ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, (17) Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” (18) and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). (19) I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. (20) If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". (21) And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. (22) So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. (23) Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." (24) How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, (25) And cornfields and goodly positions. (26) And comfort wherein they were amused. (27) Thus it was. And [then] We made another people heirs [to what they had left,] (28) And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). (29)
