Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha. Mim. (1) By the Book that makes things clear, (2) Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. (3) (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined (4) Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), (5) (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. (6) Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. (7) La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. (8) (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. (9) WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] (10) Covering the people, this is a painful torment. (11) (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. (12) How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? (13) and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". (14) 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' (15) One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! (16) ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, (17) Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, (18) And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority. (19) And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: (20) And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. (21) Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." (22) (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. (23) “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” (24) How many gardens and fountains they left behind them, (25) and cornfields and splendid buildings, (26) and the life of ease in which they took delight! (27) We gave these as an inheritance to other people. (28) and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. (29)
