Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
89 verses, revealed in Mecca after Consultation (Al-Shooraa) before Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. (1) I swear by the Book that makes things clear: (2) Indeed, We have made it an Arabic Qur'an that you might understand. (3) Indeed it is transcribed in the Original Book with Us; sublime and full of wisdom. (4) What! shall We then turn away the reminder from you altogether because you are an extravagant people? (5) We have sent many a prophet to earlier peoples (6) But there would not come to them a prophet except that they used to ridicule him. (7) and so, [in the end,] We destroyed them [even though they were] of greater might than these: and the [very] image of those people of old became a thing of the past. (8) Yet if you were to ask them: “Who created the heavens and the earth?” they will certainly say: “The All-Mighty, the All-Knowing has created them.” (9) Who hath made for you the earth a bed, and hath made for you paths therein that haply ye may be directed. (10) And Who sent down water from the sky with a proper measure, so We revived a dead city with it; this is how you will be taken out. (11) And Who hath treated the pairs, all of them, and appointed for you from ships and cattle things whereon ye ride. (12) That you may firmly sit on their backs, then remember the favor of your Lord when you are firmly seated thereon, and say: Glory be to Him Who made this subservient to us and we were not able to do it (13) “And indeed we have to return to our Lord.” (14) The pagans have considered some of His servants as His children. There is no doubt that the human being is simply ungrateful. (15)
