Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
89 verses, revealed in Mecca after Consultation (Al-Shooraa) before Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) (1) By the Clear Book; (2) We have made it an Arabic reading text so that perhaps you may understand. (3) And verily it is, in the Original Book before Us, indeed exalted. (4) Should We divert this Good Counsel from you because you are a people immersed in extravagance? (5) And how many Prophets We did send among the earlier people! (6) And not a prophet came unto them but him they were wont to mock. (7) Wherefore We destroyed peoples mightier than these in prowess; and there hath gone forth the example of the ancients. (8) If you ask them, "Who has created the heavens and the earth?", they will surely answer, "The Almighty, the All Knowing One has created them." (9) He who appointed the earth to be a cradle for you, and appointed ways for you therein, that haply you may be guided; (10) It is He who sends water down from the sky in due measure, We revive dead land with it and likewise you will be resurrected from the grave, (11) It is He who has created everything in pairs and the ships and cattle for you to ride, (12) so that you may sit firmly on their backs. Then once you have mounted them, remember your Lord's favour and say, "Glory be to Him who has subjected these creatures to us; we would never on our own have subdued them. (13) To our Lord we shall all return". (14) The pagans have considered some of His servants as His children. There is no doubt that the human being is simply ungrateful. (15)
